What is a stroke?

Stoke is a vascular disease of the brain and is discovered by the scientist Hippocrates who is the father of medicines. In ancient times when peoples have a stroke, they believe in evil spirits they thought that this (stroke) is due to evil spirits but Hippocrates does not believe that this (stroke) is due to evil spirits. This disease is known as Apoplexy in ancient times but Hippocrates discovered that this is a disease of stroke.

Stroke is a condition in which blood supply stops to brain tissues and as a result, specific brain tissue dies. These tissues die due to blood clots is formed in blood vessels and as a result blood supply stops to the brain and the body is paralyzed.

A stroke usually occurs more in men than women. The peoples who have 50+ age have more chances to develop the stroke. 

How to know that someone has a stroke?

In stroke, one side of the face droops. So if it happens the patient of stroke felt difficulty in talking and even he doesn't smile and also he cannot move his face.

The second sign of stroke is that the patient's arm becomes weak and even sometimes they can't control their hands and they become paralyzed. So the weakness of hands may also be a sign of stroke.

Patients with stroke have difficulty in speaking and they cannot pronounce the words or sentences easily.

What is the treatment of a stroke?
  • There is currently no cure for a stroke. The existing treatments only help an individual to adapt to the present way of life by making them independent. Patients are given physiotherapy to enhance  their muscle weakness.
  • Mobility aids such as wheelchairs and orthoses (braces designed to improve the function of a limb) are also used for patients of a stroke.
In the treatment of a stroke, the following medicines are given to the patients.
  • Aspirin, Antiplatelets, Anti Coagulant, Blood pressure medicines and statins etc are given to the patients.
  • Aspirins are the pain killer.
  • Antiplatelets and Anticoagulants are used to prevent blood clots.
  • Blood pressure medicines are used to reduce blood pressure levels.
  • Statins are used to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. 
  • Add healthy food to your diet.
  • Regular exercise is very important for health so do the exercises which you can do.
Is there any surgery for a stroke?

In severe cases, the doctors perform surgery which is known as Craniotomy.
 In this surgical process, the small portion of the skull is removeand a blood clot is ejected and then the portion of the skull is again replaced.
And the patients recovered after this surgery.

Which permanent disabilities are produced due to a stroke?

The permanent disabilities which are produced due to a stroke are;

  • Paralysis is a permanent disability in which a person is unable to control their movements.
  • Patients with stroke sometimes lose their memory so it is also a permanent disability.
  • The third disability of a stroke is pain and emotion problems in which a patient feels too depressed.
  • Difficulty in swallowing is another disability in the body due to a stroke.
